Getting Started

Are you new to juicing and the health benefits it could hold for you? Here are a few tips to help get you started.

1.) Figure out what you will be using to juice. There are different juicers on the market or you can even use a blender. For more information visit our page here.

2.) Find one recipe for juice you want to start with. Or take a lengthier recipe and shrink it down to start. For example when we started we took the original Mean Green Juice recipe:

  •  1 cucumber
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 2 apples
  • 6-8 leaves kale (Australian tuscan cabbage)
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tbsp ginger

and shrank it down to this:

  •  1 cucumber
  • 2 apples
  • 6-8 leaves kale (Australian tuscan cabbage)
  • 2 carrots
It fit our budget and ability at the time, and lets be honest, still as nutritious.

3.) Make a shopping list. You will need far more veggies than you think. You go through a lot of produce quickly with juicing, but of course that's where the benefits come in. You are taking in a lot of produce quickly. One tip that helps us with this expense is shopping at a bulk store, such as Costco. Their produce department is fantastic and a lot of the items are organic. This can help you cut costs and stick with juicing.

4.) Set a date and get started! Over whelmed by the idea of a juice fast? Start juicing once a day. First thing in the morning is what I recommend. It gives you the energy boost to get your day off to a great start. We didn't usually eat breakfast before we started juicing, so it gave us a great way to start our metabolism for the day without eating a meal.

No matter how you tackle juicing there is really no wrong way to do it. And the whole family can be included. My two year old loves to help feed produce into the juicer (closely supervised of course) and he loves drinking the juice when it's ready. Include your whole family in this simple trick that could improve your health!
